I’m Glad My Mom Died

Summary: I’m Glad My Mom Died is a tell-all memoir about former Nickolodeon actress Jennette McCurdy’s childhood acting career and the trauma that came with it. From eating disorders to shady boyfriends, this memoir digs in deep.

My review: This memoir was one of the first books I voluntarily finished in years. I heard about it when it was released and I thought “What a bizarre title.” But now I understand. The amount of strength it took to even write about trauma, much less release it, takes a lot of fortitude. McCurdy dives deep into her acting career starting from a young age all the way until adulthood. I’m not going to go into too much detail, but her mother was responsible for her trauma. Period. Everything from unrealistic expectations to eating disorders is caused by her mom. I’m Glad My Mom Died is a great example of how the abuser and the abused have a toxic relationship that impacts everyone around them. I suggest everyone give this memoir a read and get rid of those toxic things or people in your life.

Final score: 10/10
